Memories of Geographies (MoG) is a personal place for my photos. I’m tired of social media and the rat race of likes, engagement, and clout, so I decided to make this Substack and bring back something I haven’t done in a long time: photo blogging (but with a newsletter twist this time). I’m doing this for myself and, as I regain consciousness as a photographer, am using this blog as a space to let my photos breath and tell their own stories. As a result, dialogue is going to be minimal here at MoG. If this sounds good to you, then feel free to follow along and hit subscribe.

Who am I?

Hey, I’m Tyler! I started taking photos seriously in 2009 and since then I’ve gone through various periods of development with my artistic style. I’ve been published in the Guardian, Alberta Views, the Yards, and more. My work is heavily informed by the New Topographics movement of the ‘70s as well as street and documentary photography. Human environments are a major focus of my photography, as they tie into my interests in both urbanism and human geography more broadly. But ultimately, the way I photograph these days is primarily to document places to preserve their memory.

If you’re interested in checking out my writing, I have another Substack for that, called Nostalgia Kills. You can view it here.
